Boats Sailed

A type of boat for everyone!!

As a club, we restrict the classes of boats that are allowed to be sailed at the club. This provides a number of benefits at the club, including a significantly better quality of racing, but most importantly it means our members are more knowledgable about the types of boat we have, and are always able to discuss boat setup with newer members.

There is a wealth of information about the types of boat we sail, but it is always worth asking to speak to the 'fleet captain' who will gladly help you find, purchase, and setup your boat.

Each type of boat is ranked with a 'handicap' based on how fast it is, and this can be used to allow racing to take place between the different classes

Adult boats

  • Lark - A 2 person boat with a spinnaker, suitable for racing. The fastest boat sailed at SSSC. (https://larkclass.org/)

  • Firefly - A 2 person boat often used by Universities for Team Racing, but also a great fleet racing boat for young adults or parent and child. (https://www.fireflyclass.co.uk/)

Sailboards, Powerboats and Jet Skis

Please note that any type of sailboard or powered craft (other than rescue boats) are not permitted on the water at any time.
