Pupils Begin Learn to Sail Course at South Staffs

On Wednesday 25th April, 12 eager pupils came down to a sunny, but gusty South Staffs Sailing Club. The strong winds didn’t dampen their enthusiasm (and also didn’t physically dampen them, thanks to the skills of the instructors!).

After a couple of short briefings from Mark Fleming and Steve Troke as Senior Instructor, the pupils paired up with their instructors and went out in reefed GP14s. Despite the conditions, all pupils experienced helming the boats, which was a credit to them and their instructors. The wind died down during the session and after approximately one hour, the boats were called ashore.

After derigging boats and getting changed, two theory sessions on clothing and knots were delivered over some food and a pint. The sessions were concise and interactive with the pupils asking great questions.

Having spoken to most of the pupils after sailing, they really enjoyed the evening and were looking forward to next week. Roll on next week!
