New Coaching Framework Announced

South Staffs Sailing Club are aiming to double the number of instructors, assistant instructors and coaches, and have configured a new coaching framework with the intention of providing coaching to cater for all ages, abilities and classes throughout out the club.

Commodore Tim Coleshaw announced the move saying

Youth and Junior coaching has always been excellent, but now we now have a clear framework across the entire club which will increase participation, provide clear progression and hopefully start filling up our club Honours Board.

Key changes are

  • The introduction of the Advanced / National Racer coaching programme which will be headed up by Ross Kearney and Mike Senior. The intention being to support those sailors who want to go on and represent the club at national and international events.
  • All Fleet training will be renamed Club Training and will cater for everyone, with the intention of having different groups supported throughout the day by a wider range of coaches.
  • Youth and Junior sailors will be involved at all levels of this framework alongside the dedicated sessions that the Y&J team all ready run
  • There is now clear progression for all, taking into account their individual goals

Commencing his new role as Chief Coach, Ed Bradburn praised the work done previously and was excited to be building on it

The All Fleet training days have been a great success but were difficult to run given the wide range of abilities and varying levels of detail needed.  This new structure will allow a more targeted approach as well as ensuring our coaches don’t miss out on coaching of their own!

Club Training Principal Chris Jones also announced a new Beginners Race which will take place on the second Tuesday of each month for the duration of the evening series.

This will be run as part of the existing Tuesday night race with a “Beginner Race Winner” calculated on a Personal Handicap basis from the race results and prizes being awarded on the night.  The hope is that this will broaden the appeal of the usual Tuesday night series for new racers and encourage even more participation.
